‘Like a rock concert near the whales’. This is what underwater noise means for some species, the scientist told La Opinión.
Thanks to the European project LIFE PortSounds (LIFE20-ENV_ES_000387), the Port of Cartagena has started generating daily estimates of underwater noise caused by maritime traffic. This innovative tool will make it possible to precisely identify which areas around the port are most affected by ship noise and how it could impact marine species such as dolphins and whales that live in or pass through the region.
